Lots of lichen!

I’ve recently become fascinated by lichen (as part of work for a collaborative project, in development).

We see lichens everywhere - even if we’re unaware of doing so. They delicately cover walls, buildings, rocks, trees, peat and soil. To human eyes they form a thin crust, but on a micro-level, lichens are complex growth forms with various layers of interwoven structures.

In this sun print edition, I was interested in revealing this hidden complexity and depth. Here a close-up viewpoint not only explores surface, but also intricate patterns of shadow and light, created by these other-worldly organic forms.
