Lookout Week 2

Last Saturday was our second Lookout Drawing Session at Mareel!

The afternoon was similar to Bressay’s session earlier in the week. We were again drawing from sound and exploring textures, bringing the past to life through stories, field recordings and objects.

We also experimented with collage, using interesting mark making, rubbings and combinations of media to add interesting layers to our work.

It was just lovely seeing the variation in participants’ responses. Different aspects of the sounds were picked up on, revealed through the drawings, which was fascinating to see. It seems we can all listen to the same story or sound, but hear very different things. Over the session, it was great to see participants being more playful with their materials and using them in new ways. In the final collages, bold shapes and various textures came together in layered interesting work that also had a sense of the natural environment - you can almost hear the stormy seas and the sound of birds when looking at them!

Thank you to everyone who came along - another lovely afternoon of drawing!
